Russell Korte
Associate Professor
The George Washington University, Washington DC

I am an Associate Professor in Human and Organizational Learning (Human Resource Development) in the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at The George Washington University –formerly from Colorado State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I have been a co-investigator for the Collaborative Research Lab at Stanford University and a research assistant for the Center for the Advancement of Engineering Education—a multi-institutional center funded by the National Science Foundation.

My research investigates how engineering students navigate their education programs and how engineering graduates transition into the workplace—specifically studying how they learn and adapt to the social norms of organizations and how they come to understand the social and political systems in the workplace. Current projects include the socialization of first-year students into engineering, the experiences of engineering interns, and the unique learning and development that occurs when engineering students participate in international service projects. In addition, I am  studying the socialization of new faculty into their positions in the university, and what and how medical students learn their professional work in their clerkship experiences. Research interests include multi-disciplinary approaches to philosophy, theory, organization studies, management, professional education, workplace learning and performance, and socialization.

I earned a Ph.D. in Human Resource Development with a minor in Business Administration (concentrating on Strategic Management and Organization) from the University of Minnesota. Previously, I earned an MBA in Marketing and a Bachelor’s of Science in Education. Outside of work, my interests include a passion for the arts, sailing, and travel.
